Los Angeles Nursing Home to Pay $450,000 Over Allegations it Dumped a Resident at a Homeless ShelterActions to hold nursing homes accountable when they illegally evict residents picked up steam on June 28, 2018 when Los Angeles City Attorney Mike Feuer held a news conference to announce a settlement with Avalon Villa Care Center, a skilled nursing facility in Los Angeles. Avalon Villa allegedly dumped Ronald Anderson, a 51-year-old resident with diabetes, at a homeless shelter without his medicine, with no care arrangements and despite his strong objections. According to Feuer’s news release, the settlement includes an injunction and requires Avalon Villa to pay $75,000 in civil penalties, $325,000 to implement homeless discharge planning protocols at the facility and $50,000 for housing costs of homeless residents.
