Mad in America, a group focused on re-examining mental health treatment, recently posted the following article that recounts one family’s experience with antipsychotic drug use in a nursing home. While this happened in 2009, before the recent federal and state efforts to reduce antipsychotic use in nursing homes, the lessons drawn remain all-too relevant. Among them: antipsychotics often reduce the quality of life that nursing homes are charged with protecting and improving for their residents.
