New Comfort Care Guide Released

CaringKind has released a new guide to non-drugging dementia treatment for long-term care providers.  The guide has excellent advice for how to set up a progressive and successful comfort focused model of care in long-term care settings, such as nursing homes or assisted living facilities, in addition to an explication of comfort care principles and examples of those principles in practice.

The guide is based on the experience and observations of three nursing homes in New York City as they implemented what they called “dementia-capable palliative care.”  The examination of the experiences and observations, the barriers and solutions to good dementia care, and the need for in-house leadership are the foundation of the guide.  It is certain to be a very helpful primer for any long-term care community interested in providing the best care possible to residents with dementia.
