Conference participants will be able to choose from thirteen different sessions on a variety of elder law issues, including an overview of the new Medi-Cal recovery laws with DHCS recovery staff, 1.5 hours of ethics on legal and ethical estate planning and litigation issues, elder financial abuse litigation issues and elder abuse litigation updates, and an intensive on Special Needs Trusts & ABLE accounts.
Who Should Attend?
These sessions are designed for legal services staff, private bar estate planners, elder abuse litigation attorneys, and professional advocates interested in long-term care and advocacy. Most of the sessions assume basic knowledge of either Medi-Cal or elder abuse issues.
Registration for the pre-conference session will be held from 8:00am to 9:00am on Friday, November 17. This session will run from 9:00am to 11:30am, and will include 2.5 hours of MCLE credit.
- Registration for the conference will be from 12 noon to 1:00pm on Day One, with sessions running from 1:00pm to 5:00pm.
- The “Meet the Speakers” reception with a no-host bar will be held on Friday, November 17, from 5:00-7:00pm.
- Registration on Day Two will be from 7:30-8:30am, with a continental breakfast and buffet lunch included on Day Two. Sessions on Day Two will run from 8:30am to 5:00pm.
Continuing Education Credits
MCLE Credits: California Advocates for Nursing Home Reform is a State Bar of California approved MCLE provider. CANHR certifies that these activities have been approved for MCLE credit by the State Bar of California in the amount of 3.25 hours on Day One, and 6.5 hours on Day Two, of which 1.5 hours on Day Two will apply to legal ethics.
Legal Specialization: A number of the estate planning sessions qualify for Legal Specialization credits in the field of Estate Planning, Trust and Probate Law. A listing of approved sessions will be available.
Tuition for CANHR’s 21st annual Elder Law Conference is $650. Fee includes conference materials, continental breakfast and lunch on Day Two and a Meet-the-Speakers Reception on Day One, Friday, November 17, 2017. A confirmation letter will be mailed to you once you have registered.
Method of Payment: Payment can be made via credit card through the CANHR registration site or via check made out to CANHR. No credit card payments (only checks) will be accepted at the door, so register early and send in payment early.
Pre-Conference Sessions: Add another $100 to your registration fee if you wish to attend one of the pre-conference sessions and check the applicable box. Note: The pre-conference session is not available to anyone not registered for the full Elder Law Conference. The EADACPA Super session is restricted to plaintiff bar attorneys only.
For IOLTA-funded legal services program staff: Scholarships through the Timothy Millar Scholarship Fund will be offered to Qualified Legal Services Program staff (see this link for qualified programs) The number of scholarships depends on the amount of funds, so they are limited and information will be posted to all QLSPs on October 2, 2017.
Conference materials are available free to qualified legal services program staff who cannot attend the conference. Contact Pauline@canhr.org after the conference if you wish to have a copy of conference materials.
Deadline: Registration and fees received by Friday, November 10, 2017 will qualify for mail-back registration confirmation.
Cancellations received in writing in the CANHR office by Friday, November 10, 2017 will be refunded subject to a $50.00 handling fee. Cancellations received after Friday, November 10, 2017 are not refundable.
No refunds will be given to those who register but who do not attend the conference.

CANHR prohibits the use of tape recorders without prior approval. CANHR suggests you bring a sweater due to fluctuations in room temperature. Water service is provided at each table. You will be asked to turn off cell phones and pagers during the sessions.

The hotel provides valet parking ONLY (no self-parking) for overnight guests included in the $20 resort fee. In and out privileges permitted. Non-guest parking is $22 per day.
